Corrections Policy
Accuracy is not optional. When New England Ledger makes a factual error, we correct it clearly, promptly and in the same spirit of accountability we expect from the institutions we cover.
How to request a correction
Email: corrections@newenglandledger.com
Please include:
- The article headline and URL
- The statement you believe is inaccurate
- The correct information
- Documents, links or other evidence supporting the correction
- Your name and contact information
A correction request does not guarantee that a change will be made. NEL will review the original reporting and the evidence provided.
How corrections will appear
When a factual error materially affects a story, NEL will:
- Correct the article.
- Add a dated correction note explaining what was wrong and what was changed.
- Correct the headline, social media post, or newsletter where the error appeared.
- Notify affected parties when appropriate.
Minor spelling, grammar, or formatting changes may be made without a correction note when they do not change the article’s meaning.
Clarifications and updates
A clarification adds context when the original reporting was accurate but could reasonably be misunderstood.
An update adds new information that became available after publication.
Corrections, clarifications and updates will be labeled accordingly.
Disagreements
NEL will not alter accurate reporting solely because a subject dislikes the article, disputes its framing or disagrees with a writer’s conclusion.
Opinion pieces may express strong judgments, but their underlying factual claims remain subject to this policy.
Removal requests
NEL generally does not remove accurate published reporting from its archive. Requests involving safety, privacy, legal developments or exceptional circumstances will be reviewed individually.
